We’ve been getting rid of the clutter like crazy in this house and that meant that nothing was safe. Not even Vanessa’s toys. There were way too many toys filling up bins that haven’t seen the light of day in weeks. We still had toys meant for babies taking up precious space in our living room and we were sick of having to clean up so many toys. I took an afternoon to go through everything, box them up and put them into sell/keep piles. Huge relief. More room means more “big” girl toys. Enter the newest addition to Vanessa’s every growing group of toys, the play kitchen.
Have you seen those awesome nightstands and dressers turned play kitchens all over Pinterest and the blogosphere? I’ve been dying to make one for the kiddo for months now, but was deterred by the amount of work and time I’d have to put into it. I kept thinking, “one day” or “eventually”. Well, they never came and my poor child went without. Not that she cared or anything, but it’s been on my mind for such a long time.
A couple weekends ago, we were on our way home from biking the trails and decided to pop into the thrift store for a peak. There was this play kitchen, brand new, in the box for over 65% off the retail price. Shut the front door! We bought it right then and there and came back with the car to pick it up. Vanessa loves it!
I even found these felt sushi and cakes for fifty cents there, also brand new still in the packaging. Craziness I tell you! I’m constantly finding this particular piece of felt sushi as the drain stop. Funny the way little minds work.
I also found little plastic pans and tiny oven mitts for a few dollars at Michaels and the dish towels in the dollar section of Target. Great deal, huh? You should seriously go check it out.
I don’t know who is more obsessed with the recent addition. Either way it’s a lot of fun for both of us and I can’t wait to share some ideas I have for her play kitchen with you!
Anyone else have a play kitchen for your kiddos? Are you as obsessed with them as much as I am or am I a complete freak of nature for thinking it’s the best toy ever?
