I still have the guest room reveal coming up later today, just need the munchkin to be sleeping so I can take pictures! So today will be a two post kind of day.
I was all about jumping on the “Love Story” posts going on last week for Valentine’s day, but thought it would be better suited for today. Today is our anniversary! The time we’ve been together has completely blown by. Let’s start from the beginning, shall we?
Philip and I first met February 1st of 2007. I don’t remember the date because it was somehow monumental in our relationship, it’s because I have a freak memory when it comes to numbers and dates. Freakish I tell you! Anyway, my best friend Michelle insisted that I go to the bowling alley to meet this guy she thought would be perfect for me. We’ve been friends since we were thirteen and basically inseparable so I trusted her judgment. Well, lets just say we made a bad first impression on each other and it didn’t go the way Michelle had planned.
Since she was dating his roommate and best friend, we saw a lot of each other, but barely even spoke. I was dating someone else at the time and I’m not sure if he had a girlfriend or not. I do remember him chatting me up a lot more than usual during a Superbowl party the next year and thought it was a little unusual. Apparently his roommate told him that I was single and ready to mingle. I was single, but mingle… Really? Boys.
Philip joined the Navy and left just a few months later. I was still in Florida and he was out in the middle of the ocean somewhere. It wasn’t until he came back to Tampa for his sister’s wedding that we actually felt any kind of spark. Once again my girlfriend and her boyfriend were scheming to get Philip and I together. It worked! She wanted to go to a local dive for a “little’” while and I thought, what the heck, let’s go.
Philip and I talked all night and we really hit it off, but we didn’t exchange numbers and we weren’t friends on Facebook. He had no way of getting ahold of me the next day so he sent me a message with his number and a friend request. Cute. He asked if I would meet him for burgers and beer. I went. We met each other everyday until he had to go back to his ship, which was less than a week.
We basically started our relationship long distance and spent every single day on either Skype or the phone for hours at a time. Three weeks later he found out he was going to be in Virginia for a couple weeks and bought a plane ticket for me to see him for the weekend. We had an amazing time and I knew then that he was the one for me.
Between October and December of that year, we visited each other three times and that Christmas I finally agreed to move cross country to be with him. The rest is history and here we are today!
You are the most amazing man and I can’t imagine my life without you in it. You’ve proven to be an outstanding father and seeing you with our daughter makes my heart melt. (Ugh… tears are welling up). You’ve made me the happiest lady alive. I’m grateful for you every single day and I can’t wait to see where our lives take us. Happy anniversary!
