Things have been a little out of whack around here. Moving to Korea while pregnant, a toddler in tow and with your life stowed away in just a handful of bags can get a little hairy.
We had to be on a plane just a few short days after Philip graduated from NPS.
Our time in Monterey has been great, but we’re glad to be starting a new adventure. We had a baby in Monterey, found out we were expecting our 2nd child and Philip got a Master’s Degree. Monterey will always hold a special place in our hearts and maybe we’ll be back someday. Btw, who doesn’t love a man in Navy dress white uniform?
After graduation, we still had a few loose ends to tie up. Things like the last of our unaccompanied baggage needed to be packed up and shipped by the moving company and our car needed to be dropped off at a nearby port to get shipped to Korea. I almost forgot to mention all the while we were literally sleeping on air mattresses and using lawn chairs for furniture. We lived like that for nearly two weeks!
We were sooooo ready to get our butts on the plane. Unfortunately EVERY.SINGLE.ONE. of our flights were delayed. That’s serious bad news when you’re traveling with a toddler. Thank goodness for technology!
We also spent a lot of time staring out windows and pointing out the planes. Vanessa did surprisingly well and cooperated with us for the full 3 days it took us to finally get to Korea. Yes, it did take us a full 3 days to move to Korea!
There is only so much you can do to keep a toddler busy and I cannot imagine traveling without a tablet loaded with games and kid shows. Serious sanity saver.
So what exactly happened during those 3 days? Flight #1 was delayed 2 hrs, flight #2 was also delayed 2 hrs, 8 of our 9 checked bags went missing, spent the night in a hotel, bags were found, flight #3 was delayed 30 hrs, spent another night in a hotel, finally got on the plane to Korea, missed the last bus to our final destination, spent ANOTHER night in a hotel, and last but not least, we made it to our final destination in Seoul, Korea. Whew! We are currently staying in yet another hotel here in Yongsan, but we move into our new home tomorrow.
It’s going to be so nice to be in our house, full of loaner furniture, but something is better than nothing! It’s absolutely better than air mattresses and lawn furniture, that’s for sure. I’ll post all the details along with photos as soon as we get internet in our new place.
Also, if you haven’t taken a look at See Vanessa Craft, go now! She’s hosting 20 Crafty Days of Halloween full of guest bloggers (including yours truly). Lots of fun Halloween projects that can be done on the cheap are being featured. Now if only I had access to a craft store!
