Long Overdue

I’ve been so terribly busy with planning my daughters birthday, out of town guests and my shop that something had to give…. and sadly it was the blog. I’m back in full force. Remember the orange desk I picked up on the side of the road a few months ago? If not, I’ll remind you.

Before

I really liked the desk, but the color wasn’t going to cut it. So I gave it a few coats of paint and a little tlc and here it is after.

After

I was originally going to replace all the old hardware, but liked the look of the old pulls against my favorite shade of antique white. I gave the desk a light sand, coat of primer, couple coats of antique white, and a couple coats of wipe on poly.

I chose the spray paint route because it’s quicker and goes on smoother. Or maybe it’s just because I’m lazy… Either way it worked out well. Here are a few close ups of my new desk.

I spray paint a little bit of light blue on the corners and on the flower details so when I started distressing the edges some of the blue would show through. What ended up happening is that the orange came through the blue. I was upset about it at first, but then the look started growing on me. This desk is currently my little work station, but I’ll hand it down to my daughter once we move into a bigger house. Also, here is a little sneak peak of my daughter in her traditional birthday dress. My friend took this photo. I’m so fortunate to have great friends *tear*

I sure did! I talked the the previous owner when I picked it up and she said she just needed more room for a second bed in her daughters room. Score!
