DIY Cake Pedestals

It’s been awhile since I posted a craft related entry. It’s not because I haven’t been working on little projects. It’s because I work on too many projects while trying to balance being a SAHM and managing my boutique. Oh, and I’m planning my daughter’s first birthday and my husband and I are renewing our vows later this year. Lots going on, not enough time to do it all.
I’ve mentioned before that I ~~like~~ love to go bargain hunting. One of the things I’ve been looking for every time I walk into a thrift store is a candlestick that I could turn into a cake pedestal. I love cake pedestals, but can’t bring myself to spend a ton of money on one. Take a look at these beauties I saw on The Cake Blog.

These lovelies are from Crate & Barrel, Williams-Sonoma, & Martha Stewart. Beautiful, but I’m CHEAP. So I made my own

I made two cake stands for $6.50! Both candlesticks came in the perfect shade of antique white (my favorite) and the plates were 2 for $1.00.
Supplies:
Candlestick with wide base

Ceramic plate

Gorilla Glue (or other heavy duty glue, ceramic glue did not work for me the first time)

Directions:
Clean the candlestick & plate. Adhere the two following the glue manufacturers directions. Easy!
*Note* Gorilla Glue expands and bubbles which can make your glue seam look like a complete disaster. Use as little as possible to avoid ugly yellow bubbles.

I’m sure I’ll eventually cave and spend the money on a “nice” cake pedestal, but I can’t complain that these pretty little things only cost me $3.25 a piece. If you love cake pedestals as much as I do, please make these!

I made these cake pops based on Bakerella’s recipe. They were a little larger than I’d like because I didn’t read the what size the cooker cutter needed to be. Oops! They were still yummy though
