Campaign Desk

Since discovering that we are moving overseas in the very near future, we’ve been downsizing in the furniture department. Thanks to Craigslist, we were able to sell all our patio furniture, the grey chest of drawers and my favorite furniture re-do, the desk. The massive, 300 lb paper hoarder’s dream desk. There was no way we could bring that beast with us. Thankfully saying goodbye also meant saying “HELLOOOOOO” to another desk. My new campaign desk that is.

We always try to pay cash for large purchases. That includes furniture, electronics, and anything else that requires a little bit of budgeting to make happen. So we used the cash from the sale of our old desk to fund the purchase of our new desk. We spent $56 dollars out of pocket for both the desk and chair. Not too bad in my book.

So how did we pull it off? Coupons and taking home the floor samples, which also meant an additional 15% off. It also helped that a lot of the home office furniture was already 40% off before the additional discounts. This meant we paid nearly half off the original retail price. Cha-ching!

The bulletin board is made from the same fabric as the headboard and I used the same nail head trim treatment to match the trim on the chair.

I love how the desk area is a little bit masculine, rustic, and feminine at the same time. I’m also in love with the weathered wood look these days and this desk fits the bill.

Bulletin Board & Key Art: Made by yours truly.

I want to stitch up a little pillow in shades of pale blue and pink for the chair to pull in some of the colors from the wall décor and V’s baby picture. Still on the search for the perfect fabric after discovering the one I had fallen in love with is a whopping $60/yard… YIKES!

All in all, I’m pretty happy with my new desk. What do you think?
