Hi there! Welcome to my new home here at WordPress. The transfer from Blogger to WordPress was fairly stress free due to the amazing talents of Tanya from Blogelina. She was able to transfer 99% my files intact (my project gallery links need to be altered to work) and the design was very similar to my previous one. I’m so grateful that my posts and pictures made it over and that I wasn’t the one stressing over it. VERY GRATEFUL.
I’ve heard so many horror stories about folks losing some or all of their posts when they made the transfer from Blogger to WordPress, so finding a qualified professional was a must for me. Spending time with my husband, daughter and friends was (and is) far more important to me than being able to call myself and “expert” at moving blogs. Plus, I’m pretty sure it would have cost me a lot of sleepless nights, hairloss, dark circles all due to stress. So if you’re in the market to move over to WordPress without spending an insane amount of money, go with Blogelina.
So is the grass really greener on the other side? Well, it sure does cost a lot more green to maintain a self hosted WordPress blog. Hosting fees and domain names are a necessity and then you need to factor in whether you’re going to go with a PHP framework and a child theme for that framework. If that’s getting a little technical for you non-Wordpress users, don’t worry. I was scratching my head thinking, “what on Earth have I done” and “help me, PUH-LEEEEASE”. It even stumped my super tech savvy, space “geek” of a husband. In his defense, I didn’t know what I was talking about, so he didn’t know how to help me.
All the initial frustration and thinking I made a huge mistake has subsided. Just like with any move, the process can be stressful. Start to finish, it has taken me three days to get settled in and getting things the way I want them for the time being. There are still a lot of changes going down here at Craft Crazy Mom, but thankfully the heavy lifting portion of the move is done. Just for the record, I love WordPress! The features are a lot more advanced and I love being able to control every single aspect of my blog. Pretty nifty stuff!
We have a lot of catching up to do! I’ve recently been gushing over the fact that the Color Club polish sent in my Birchbox has lasted a week without a single chip. No base coat, no top coat, dishes, typing and not a single chip! I’m impressed, so much so that I bought myself a few bottles in different colors. I have proof!
Please ignore my scary looking hand and fingers. Wowzers, reminds me of that Seinfeld episode. “She had man hands!” Anyone? If you’re wondering what happened to my halo engagement ring and my band, they’re in a safe place. They were too big and literally flying off my fingers, we’ve even had a group of friends on their hands and knees in the middle of the night trying to find them on the sidewalk. I must have been retaining a ton of water when we bought them and we couldn’t have them sized because they were eternity bands… Pain in the rear.
My amazing husband got me a new set for my birthday. Sweet, sweet, amazing man. He also let me pick out whatever sewing machine I wanted. I cheaped out since it’s my first machine and I’m sure a super fancy machine would have me crying with confusion. Did I hit the husband jackpot or what? Best birthday, EVER!
While I’m talking about Philip, I thought I’d share a little drawing he made for Vanessa with chalk from Kaufmann Mercantile. I was giddy to give the chalk a whirl on the chalkboard coffee table, but I’m not a very good artist. Philip was more than happy to draw the munchkin a rockstar Elmo, expecially since he’s been playing the Draw Something app. Not bad huh?
Awkward angle, but it shows how vivid the chalk colors are and I can honestly say that the stuff is practically dust free. Nothing like that cheap dollar store stuff I give Vanessa that manages to make a mess everywhere. I’m keeping the pack of chalk safe until Vanessa is old enough to appreciate the quality and isn’t trying to use it to give our couches and walls a little color. Did I ever mention she I caught her “taste testing” chalk colors a few weeks ago? Yeah… she was taking little nibbles out of the chalk, reminded me of pregnant ladies with Pica. The nice stuff with have to wait until Vanessa is a little older and can appreciate the quality. I can’t wait until she and Philip are drawing together. Makes my heart smile.
I’ve got a day full of errands and playing catch-up. See you back here tomorrow for a little chat about DSLR cameras and the goodies I love. Until then, happy crafting!
** What up FTC?! I was NOT perked by Blogelina or Birchbox to mention their products or services, I just think they happen to be super awesome. The Birchbox link contains an invitation by yours truly, any points received by readers will be used for a future giveaway because sharing is caring. I was given free product by Kauffman Mercantile in exchange for a mention. All opinions are my own and was not paid for positive reviews. **
