There are a lot of changes happening around this house. After moving the mammoth desk into the house, my husband needed a quiet place away from the hustle and bustle to work on his thesis. We moved his desk into the guest bedroom and had to do a little shuffling around to make things fit.
When you’re working with such a small space, you have to get creative. So we emptied out the closet and moved in the dresser since we only had a couple things hanging up in there anyway.
My husband purchased this dresser a year before we moved in together off of craigslist for a steal. It’s solid wood and looked great, but I’m really not into light colored woods. Shortly after I moved in, I decided to paint it a black enamel. I loved it for a really long time and the paint was so incredibly durable, but I needed something lighter and a little more feminine. This is what it looked like while I was patching up some dents.
ASCP in Duck Egg Blue was the perfect solution and is probably my favorite color after Paris Grey. I gave it a coat of clear wax and buffed it out for a little bit of sheen. The decorative detail on the drawer front is just a one dollar foam stamp. All the white detail is actually a very pale light grey called “Cumulus Cloud” by Martha Stewart, leftovers from the antique dresser.
I’d really love to replace the pulls, but I just haven’t found anything I absolutely loved that didn’t cost $5/piece. I really can’t justify spending $60 in pulls right now, but I’ve been on the prowl for coupons to my favorite stores and looking for cheaper alternatives.
I absolutely love the mirror I got from Home Goods a couple weeks ago. I just about squealed at the top of my lungs trying to explain to Philip that I was in L.O.V.E. with it and practically skipping down the aisles pushing my cart full of goodies around.
I love that place with a passion. A sick, slightly disturbing, borderline obsessive kind of love. Am I the only one that constantly wonders what new goodies those geniuses are bringing in every week? Thankfully the closest one is 30 miles away, otherwise Philip would probably be holding an intervention for my Home Goods addiction.
This area is still a work in process. Thinking a few hammered steel accessories or maybe even some dejunkified thrift store lamps because the lampshade in there right now is driving me crazy. We will see. For now the simple, clutter free look works.
What do you think of my closet turned dresser nook? More importantly, what do you think of the mirror?!
